The Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and Engineering is a first-cycle course compatible with the Bologna principles. It aims to provide graduates with solid, coherent, and comprehensive basic Computer Science and Engineering training, which can later be deepened at the second-cycle level. The course allows entry into professional activity compatible with the E1 qualification level of the Order of Engineers. 

NOVA School of Science & Technology is a pioneer in teaching Computer Science and Engineering in Portugal, combining excellence in teaching and research accumulated in almost 50 years of experience. The course teachers have vast experience and capacity for innovation, combining education with research at the Excellence Research Center NOVA LINCS. The Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and Engineering is based on this experience, complemented with the opinion of external consultants, and substantiates an updated vision of the initial training of the Computer Science Design Engineer.

Computer Science and Engineering is vital for modern society, with computer systems becoming ubiquitous in the most varied areas of activity. In this context, a solid basic training in Computer Science and Engineering is essential in developing services, systems, and products in the most varied companies and organizations, particularly those operating in ​​Information Technologies. Using solid and comprehensive basic training, our Engineers develop development and innovation activities in areas as diverse as Digital Transformation, Digital Agriculture, Public Health and Personalized Medicine, Communications Systems, Cybersecurity, and Privacy.

  

Goals

The Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and Engineering aims to provide solid, coherent, and comprehensive basic training in Computer Engineering, allowing integration into professional activity. The training obtained can be deepened, and it is the first step in the training of Computer Science Design Engineers qualified to develop project, leadership, and innovation activities.

The curricular structure provides solid and comprehensive training in Computer Science and the fundamental subjects of an Engineer. A set of transversal skills in communication, science, technology, and society complements this training.

The course provides project or research initiation experience, which can be carried out in a business, research laboratory, or other context.

Over the last twenty years, the Department of Computer Science at FCT NOVA has graduated around two thousand graduates and masters in Computer Science and Engineering.
