The Department of Informatics (DI) of FCT NOVA is the pioneer in teaching Informatics Engineering in Portugal (since 1975) and has since assumed a strong responsibility in the dissemination of this scientific and technological area to the new generations.
The DI promotes several initiatives aimed at several age groups throughout the academic year.
We call it “Back to the classic Arcades”. It is aimed to high school students who are looking for an introduction to problem solving. While building computer or mobile games, students learn about computational thinking and computer programming.
“Coding Fest” is an initiative of FCT NOVA aimed to elementary and middle school students. This initiative is aligned with the worldwide movement “Hour of Code”, which marked the beginning of the “Code Movement Portugal”.
In the last “Code Movement Portugal”, more than 1000 schools participated in Portugal.
DI participates with great enthusiasm in the annual ExpoFCT exhibition. This event is planned for high school students, highlighting a sample of the educational offer by all the departments of FCT-NOVA.
During ExpoFCT, DI promotes several activities that illustrate computer principles and fundamental computer science concepts, combining fun and learning.
The “Technovation Challenge” is a worldwide competition for social entrepreneurship through technology, aimed at girls aged between 10 and 18. NOVA's IT Department supports schools and students’ candidates to this competition.
ToPAS Lx is organized by DI, within the TOPAS Programming Tournament, for high school students from Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region.
This annual programming contest aims to stimulate problem-solving skills by increasing computer literacy and programming skills of high school students.
FCT NOVA invites you to know the Campus, to carry out experimental activities in the Departments and to answer questions regarding the areas of study at FCT NOVA with the Coordinators of Undergraduate degrees and Integrated Masters.
