The computer Science Department at FCT NOVA joined the global movement “The Hour of Code” by visiting 5 K9-12 schools, and reaching over 190 students in total. Several schools participated In this initiative, including 4th grade students at the Spanish Institute, 5th grade students at “O Parque” - Restelo and 7th graders from Escola Secundária Emídio Navarro - Almada, Colégio Campo de Flores and Escola Secundária de Linda-a-Velha. All the students involved were enthusiastic about the initiative and took home extra challenges to complete more puzzles during the Christmas break.
“The Hour of Code” mobilized about 200.000 events worldwide (more than 180 countries), and more than 300 events in Portugal. The proposed activity consists in an one hour problem solving and programing tutorial accessible to all ages and available in more than 30 idioms.
