Research Opportunities Programme for Excelling Students (ROPES)

The UROP (Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program) at the Department of Computer Science provides students with contact with the practice of scientific research and the first opportunity to work directly with professors and researchers from the Department.

The central objective of this program is to give students the possibility of applying the knowledge acquired throughout the course to solve concrete research problems, allowing them to " learn by doing."

Within the scope of the Integrated Master's Degree in Computer Engineering at NOVA, UROP is integrated as an attractive aspect of the curricular unit Curriculum Development Activity. This research aspect allows students in the 1st cycle of studies to develop scientific research activities as part of their curricular program and with the award of ECTS credits. In this context, students are included in ongoing research projects at NOVA LINCS involving several researchers and postgraduate students from the laboratory.

Students with a worthy CV and the best proposed research plans can apply for a Scientific Initiation Scholarship, funded by the NOVA Laboratory for Computer Science and Informatics (NOVA LINCS).

This is an innovative initiative at the national level, part of the context of the UROP Program (Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program) of the Department of Computer Science at NOVA School of Science & Technology, similar to the UROPs of world-renowned universities such as MIT, Stanford, or Cambridge.
