Technocation Portugal 2018 at FCT NOVA

07-06-2018

Aiming to promote the desired gender balance in the professional areas related to ICT and Informatics and in the scope of several well-known international movements, such as Girls in ICT, Women in Computing and Code Girl, the Department of Informatics of FCT NOVA have joined the Technovation Challenge as Regional Ambassador, challenging for the first time Portuguese girls to run for the program.

Technovation Challenge is a global technology entrepreneurship competition for girls between the ages of 10 and 18. The main objective is to motivate more young women to consider a career in technological areas.

This year, for the first time, Portuguese girls have followed the competition's curriculum and submitted their work successfully.

The challenge was to identify a problem in their local community and build an app to help solve this problem.

In the first edition of Technovation Portugal seven Portuguese teams have submitted their works to the global competition!

Three of the Portuguese teams presented their apps in a public session that took place at FCT NOVA, on May 30, 2018.

These girls shared with the audience their first experience on this competition from the very beginning of the idea to the development and implementation of their apps.
