António Vitorino discusses Technology and Society with MIEI students

António Vitorino, former minister and European commissioner challenges MIEI students at the closing session (open for all FCT NOVA community) of the ASPI course: “How can we align the fundamental principles of citizenship and ethics with the possibilities of modern information society? Are we facing a complete paradigm change, or just suffering from total disorientation?”. 

In fact, the emergence and globalization of the internet during the recent decade, as well as the proliferation of cloud and software content, of mobile and ubiquitous computing computação of international relations between countries, citizens, and companies, with ethical, legislative, social, economical and political impact.

Since it was launched, the MIEI - Mestrado Integrado em Engenharia Informática - course “Aspectos Socio-Profissionais da Informática” at the 4th year of the program offers future informatic engineers the opportunity of interaction with a panel of expert speakers about hot themes of the modern information society,

Other invited speakers during the 2015/16 academic year included the  Journalist and Communicator Vasco Trigo (ISCTE), the Inspector Baltazar Rodrigues (Policia Judiciária),  Eng. Paulo Trezentos (Caixa Mágica, Aptoide e ISCTE), Prof. Isabel Nunes (DEMI FCT NOVA)  Eng. Vítor Santos (Ordem dos Engenheiros e NOVA IMS), and  Prof. José Legatheaux Martins (DI FCT NOVA), who have covered themes such as the relationship between media, news, and the Digital Revolution, cybercriminality, intellectual property of software and media, Ergonomy, occupational diseases in informatics engineers and the profession of Informatics Engineering and the evolution of the Internet in Portugal.

The course “Aspectos Socio-Profissionais da Informática” has been coordinated by Profs. Vasco Amaral, Paulo Lopes, Armanda Rodrigues and Pedro Medeiros.
