CITI @ DI graduate student wins Fraunhofer award

David Navalho, currently a PhD student at Departamento de Informatica Universidade Nova de Lisboa, working at CITI PERSYS Computer Systems team and supervised by Nuno Preguiça, has his master thesis work recognized by a Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge 2010 award, among three other master level and two PhD level projects. Navalho ranked second place among master level projects. David's master project leverages on the wireless infrastructures avaliable everywhere (say in shopping centers, airports, museums, universities, etc) to get geographic information location where GPS access may be unfeasible. The underlying scientific foundations for the work were published in a paper at EURO-PAR 2010, a top ranked conference in the field of computer systems.

The Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge Awards main aim is to motivate and reward research with practical utility.
